How do we work?

When settling an estate, Chesapeake Estate Services can do any or all of the tasks necessary—from the point of filing the will with the Register of Wills through submitting the final accounting to the Orphan’s Court.

We charge by the hour or can negotiate a flat fee, depending on the size of the job.

For a flat fee, Chesapeake Estate Services will complete everything necessary to close a Small Estate in Maryland. (A small estate in Maryland is defined as an estate with less than $30,000 in probate assets, or $50,000 if the sole beneficiary is the surviving spouse.)

For a flat fee, we will create a written report that outlines each task that needs to be completed (whether in settling an estate or downsizing) with guidance on how to accomplish each one. Details on suggested ways to sell items (including by live auction, selling directly to collectors, through an internet auction, at an estate sale, etc.) will be outlined. You can choose how you want to proceed privately, or hire Chesapeake Estate Services to handle any or all of the tasks outlined. If we are hired, all or a portion of the cost of the report (depending on the job) will be deducted from the final bill.

Still photos and/or a video tape can be provided for clients showing items that have been sold. These keepsake photos can help remind seniors of favorite memories associated with each item.
